Rock - April 2025

We turned up the volume to 11 for this month's theme of Rock. Whether it's photos of mountains or music it's covered this month and our members found many other interpretations in the images they submitted.

 

In the former category we saw images from around the globe: the USA, New Zealand, Italy, Sardinia, the Lake District and Leicestershire. Other images were from members who interpreted the theme a little less literally, so, rock guitar, sticks of rock and rocking boats.

 

Usually with such riches to vote for, our members' pick a wide variety of images as their favourite, frequently resulting in ties. This month was different with Kevan Brassington's beautifully composed Beach Rock and Stack - waves pounding on cliffs and smooth, sandy beach - being the runaway favourite.

 

The Image of the Month section of our Show and Tell meetings are photos taken by members since the last meeting. The onset of spring and the recent fair weather has coaxed our members from semi-hibernation and into the outdoor world. Flowers and blossom featured widely - not surprising as the displays have been particularly good this year. One member had their wits about them to capture the partial eclipse of the sun by using eclipse glasses over a smartphone. But once again in a rare show of uninamity, most votes went to a single image: Cathedral Crypt by Chrissie Shun. This photo captured the stillness and ethereal quality of Anthony Gormley's Sound II sculpture.
